Treatment of Gasworks Contamination for Major Infrastructure Project, London
RAW has just commenced work treating contaminated groundwater arising from the construction of an access shaft for a flood alleviation scheme in London. The water treatment system has been designed to handle 20m3/hr to 40m3/hr and cope with creosote, coal tar and other gas works contamination. It is expected that phase separated coal tar and creosote will be encountered which has required three stages of oil water separation to ensure that these neutral buoyancy oils do not foul the particle and granular activated carbon filters. It is critical to the progress of the shaft construction that the dewatering and water treatment proceeds without interruption, and RAW has designed a robust system with a high level of redundancy to ensure that interruptions do not occur. The work is expected to continue for six months.
